Our Place Schools is a small residential special school set in five acres of orchard, in rural Worcestershire. Our young people, aged up to 18 have a wide range of special educational needs and each has an individualised curriculum designed to meet their own particular needs. Our rural setting is integral to our education, which is delivered through the Gentle Teach method.

 

Weekend Support Workers
If you are unable to commit to a full time Support Worker role at Our Place we also have vacancies for Weekend Support Workers for both early and late shifts.
The requirements and application process are the same as for the full time roles  
Early Shift - 7.30am – 3.30pm
Late Shift 3.30pm – 9.00pm

 

Support Workers

 

Responsible to: Team Coordinator and Senior Management Team

Main Responsibilities:

  • to support the general health and welfare of the Children;

  • to assist in the general cleanliness and provisions of the home;

  • to maximise the potential capabilities of all the Children – physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially;

  • to work in accordance with the general philosophy of care within the care home

Key Tasks:

  • to support and respect the dignity and individuality and support the personalised development of each child;

  • to ensure a high standard of personal care for each child, including physical wellbeing and personal hygiene;

  • to be aware of the emotional needs and aspirations of each child;

  • to work on a rota shift system inclusive of evening, some weekends and sleep-ins;

  • to work within the classroom environment providing educational support to pupils;

  • to action and assist with Behaviour, Communication and Education Plans, keeping;

  • notes and records as set out in the home policies;

  • to attend staff meetings and seminars and individual support and supervision meetings;

  • to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children at all times;

  • to help the housekeeper and children maintain cleanliness about the home;

  • to support other staff members in their therapeutic and educational work;

  • to undertake any training as necessary to carry out the role to the highest standards;

  • to be aware of the emotional needs and aspirations of each child;

  • any other duties reasonably considered as necessary for the safe and successful    running of the school/home;

  • administer medication according to the prescription

Health & Safety Legislation

  • As an employee you are required by The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 to:

    • Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and others who may be affected by what you do or don’t do;

    • Cooperate with Our Place to ensure compliance with the law;

  • And Under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Act 1999 you as an employee are required to:

    • Inform your employer of any work situation which you consider represents a serious and imminent danger and any shortcoming in the employer’s protection arrangements for health and safety.

    • Ensure you do not misuse or interfere with equipment provided for your safety or the safety of others.
